Kreative Innovative Social Science: A place where art and research form an alliance.

Resident Karin Hannes is (pr)academic and coordinator of research group SoMeTHin'K; always seeking for answers, seldom pleased with the ones found. Chaotic in nature, smart enough to hide it. Walks the thin line between art and science, most of her time with significant others. Her mission? To engage people in co-creative projects that bring positive change to communities.  Loves parkour, street art, diving, flying and beautiful people.

Coordinator from research group SoMeTHin'K (Social, Methodological & Theoretical Innovation / Kreative). SoMeThin'K does more than pursuing a line of research inquiry to push the boundaries of standard research practice.

It's an attitude.

SoMeTHin'K recently sponsored 5 projects with K.I.SS potential who applied for the

It is cosmopolitan in the sense that it reconnects the ties between humans and their environment, between humanity and our material world.

It values a social justice perspective with diversity and inclusion as core ingredients and beneficial forms of (self) transformation as its most important outcome.

It invites us to think and act differently and to put knowledge into practice, to consider our environment as a living lab to be infused with social innovation.

We develop, test, rethink and reconsider methodological and theoretical practices of social science research in order to produce knowledge differently, but most of all to produce it in a joined effort with citizens. Co-creative inquiry is essential if we want to achieve positive change in society.

Some say innovation is carefully pulling together bits and pieces in a way that has not been done before. Some say innovation starts in an imaginary space.  I am somewhere in between.  My most fascinating methodological moza├»ks consist of something old, something new and something odd, to prevent from permanently repeating myself. I am attracted by multi- and transdisciplinary work.  It is the heart of creative and innovative practice.

Our core interest is in the further development of:

  • Qualitative research methods
  • Qualitative evidence synthesis methods
  • Arts based methods
  • Multi-sensory methods
  • Visual research methods - photo voice
  • Community based research, social-cultural practice, co-creative research practice
  • Urban development processes
  • Health Humanities
  • Evidence-based practice and systematic reviews
  • Qualitative data analysis
  • Critical emancipatory research
  • Popular culture and cultural heritage
  • Vulnerable populations

If you have an idea to bring positive change, but you lack the tools to conceptualize it, then we are a match made in heaven.
